Teach a child

Show them how to find a primary-care doctor, keep their own records, prepare for appointments, and advocate for themselves. Frame health as something you steer, not something that happens to you.

Establish a primary-care doctor before you’re sick, keep your own records, and go in prepared with questions — you are the manager of your own health, not a passive patient. Continuity catches problems early; crisis care catches them late.

Tactics that teach it

Make It a System adult habit

For anything on a rhythm, build a routine or automation — don’t rely on remembering.

Recurring upkeep — laundry, bills, checkups, oil changes, account reviews — survives on systems, not willpower. Put it on a schedule or automate it so it happens whether or not you feel like it; decide once and let the routine carry it.
