# Playbook

*Track 2 of three. The standard route through a life, and the tools to teach it.
Person-agnostic: "what should a person learn, and about when?" (The per-kid version
lives in the [Workbook](08-workbook.md).)*

This file captures the **toolset**, the **rollout timeline**, and the **parent
checklist** — the practical machinery. The daily detail for the flagship tool is in
[05-daily-structure.md](05-daily-structure.md). All tool names are placeholders.

## The Toolset

Each tool targets one recurring daily problem, and each one quietly implements a
ring of the [Framework](01-foundations.md). They split into two kinds.

### Kid-facing tools *(behaviors you build in the child, rolled out over time)*

| Tool | The problem it solves | Ring it implements |
|---|---|---|
| **The Activity Loop** — Choose → Do → Done → Reset | flitting, never finishing | Finitude + Self |
| **The Daily Job** — one real chore, every day | entitlement, no contributing | Contribution |
| **The Shared Shelf** — things that are *ours*, turn-taking | "mine," Van-vs-Stevie | Society / belonging |
| **The Do-Over** — actually make it right, not just "sorry" | empty apologies | Care / Society |

### Adult-operating habits *(always on — how you hold any boundary)*

| Habit | What it is |
|---|---|
| **The One Ask** | Say it once, calm and declarative. If ignored, *act* — immediate, often timed consequence. No nagging, no repeating six times. |
| **Weather the Storm** | For the meltdown: name the feeling, hold the line, let it pass, reconnect after. Never renegotiate the boundary mid-storm. |

## The Rollout Timeline

Two lanes run at once. **Rule: never add the next thing until the last one is "she
just does it" — roughly 80% of the time, unprompted.** That's the mastery gate.

**Sequenced lane** (the child's habits, gated by mastery):

- **Weeks 1–2:** CHOOSE + RESET only.
- **Weeks 3–4:** add the finish line → the full Activity Loop. Start daily anchors.
- **Month 2:** The Daily Job (one chore).
- **Months 2–3:** The Shared Shelf (bring Van fully in).
- **Ongoing:** The Do-Over, truth-telling.

**Always-on lane** (the adults, from day one): The One Ask and Weather the Storm —
and run the checklist below before each new phase.

## The Parent "Rollout" Checklist

*Every tool fails for the same reason: the two adults run it differently. Before
starting any new tool, both parents run down this list — out of the kids' earshot.*

- [ ] We picked **one** thing for this 2-week window.
- [ ] We agreed on the **exact words** — we both say the same script.
- [ ] We defined the **boundary** *and* the **consequence**, in advance.
- [ ] We told her what's changing — once, simply.
- [ ] We know who holds the line when — no undermining in the moment.
- [ ] We do a **2-minute debrief each night**: what worked, where we caved.
- [ ] We named the **"done" bar** so we know when to move to the next thing.
