Contribute to your community
Be a maker of your community, not just a resident of it.
What to learn
Take an ongoing, meaningful role in your community — civic, neighborly, or organizational — that leaves it better.
The problem it solves
People consume their community’s benefits for a lifetime without ever helping produce them.
How to teach it
Let them see you serve — the board, the coach’s whistle, the neighborhood effort — so a contributed life looks normal and expected, not exceptional.
Take a real, sustained role in the place you live — mentor, organize, serve, build — and measure it by what’s better because you were there. A community is produced by its members; be one who produces, not only one who consumes.
Done when
In the framework
Contribution at full size: a life owes something back, and stewardship of what outlasts you is how you pay it. A made community is the framework’s outermost circle, lived.
This lesson lives in Contribution — one of the four circles of Agency, the engine of everything you do. Read The World & the Future →
